Mood check for moody ppl.

I find it really helpful to do a mental check periodically. Even if your brain functions like it's supposed to, you might find it fun.

Take a moment to pause your day, relax a little, and breathe.
Don't rush; take a second to think about each question.

About Me

Designer, Artist, Musician, Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Cousin, and some other things.

The Gist

I'm fortunate to have spent most of my adult life making pretty things. For the past two decades, my life has revolved around design and parenthood, and for one of those decades, my lovely wife has kept me on track. I've created four beautiful kids and a million Photoshop files.

Education

"...a lot of people go to college for 7 years.."
—Chris Farley in Tommy Boy

I studied Art History and Studio Art at Georgia State University before changing majors to Graphic Design and moving to the Art Institute of Atlanta. I also did a stint in Savannah for culinary school for some reason.

Learning Life

Post-College & Working Titles

After college, I worked as a sign maker, a graphic design intern, a design associate, a lead designer, and finally, a creative director. I often washed dishes in the evenings to make ends meet. All the while, I was learning to be a dad to three kids who could easily outsmart me.

A Love Story...

The story goes something like this... at some point nearly ten years ago, while catching pigeons at the Five Points Marta Station, I bumped into a wonderful Mexican lady who was the most beautiful passenger on the train (depending on the train).

Clearly, she was lost and couldn't speak English, but it was just my luck that I'd been speaking it since I was at least eight years old! I pointed at the map and told her where to go, and she asked me to ride with her to ensure she got there safely. Once at her stop, I gave her my number and asked her to dinner.

The Wedding of the Decade

Two years later, on a sweltering furnace-of-an-August day in North Georgia, Fabi and I were married. The location was an abandoned barn that we converted into an abandoned barn with xmas lights, and all of our friends and family sweatily attended (almost ten whole people!). After the wedding, we made a spunky, six-year-old Mexibaby to inherit our crushing debt once we've passed on into that great graphic design gig in the sky.

2019-2024

COVID-19 & Its Aftermath.

Two months before the Covid-19 lockdowns started, I opened a design studio. I named it STäBLER DESIGN STüDIO (Fabi said no to Casa de Gues). It didn't survive The Pandemic.

I was hired by an Environmental Sciences company (which was thriving because of Covid) as an in-house graphic designer. After a few months, I was promoted to management as Creative Director, where I spent the next quarter of my career.

2025—?

STäBLER DESIGN STüDIO v2.0

In 2025, I left the environmental company to reopen my design studio, this time naming it STäBLER-IBARRA DESIGN STüDIO v2.0. This version of the studio benefits from my wife's last name in the title, as well as her working as the Assistant to the Co-Founder/Co-Founder, which makes the whole thing much stabler.

...and they all lived happily ever after.

Non-Profits

GRACE Worldwide is a non-profit I work with. Their mission is to reach those in need across the globe.

I'm not religious, but it hasn't been an issue, although I don't think they know.
